EVERETT, WA: Despite a solid pitching performance from starting pitcher Juan Mercedes, Everett dropped game two of the series against the Spokane Indians by a score of 7-1. Mercedes was able to hold Spokane to just four runs (three earned) through 6.0 innings pitched while striking out six batters and walking just one.
With a runner at second, the Indians scored quickly in the first inning as Colin Simpson singled in the first run of the game. After a scoreless second inning, Hunter Goodman extended the lead to 2-0 with a 433-foot home run to dead center field. That was more than enough support for Spokane starter Anderson Amarista who only allowed one hit over six innings. It was Amarista’s first appearance for Spokane.
Robert Perez Jr broke up the Spokane no-hitter in the sixth inning with a double. Everett was only able to manage three hits in the game.
Down four heading into the bottom of the eighth, Victor Labrada got Everett on the board with a solo-home run to right center field. It was Labrada’s third home run in his last eight games and ninth of the season, but that is as close as the AquaSox would get.
Everett looks to rebound tomorrow night against Spokane with a chance to take a 2-1 series lead. If you can’t catch the AquaSox live at the ballpark, the game will be broadcast live on the KRKO radio network across all of Western Washington with Pat Dillon on the call.
