Barclay, Munoz turn in solid outings in tough loss

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (April 28, 2022) — The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 2-0 on Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium. Wilmington plated a quick run against Hudson Valley starter Edgar Barclay. Israel Pineda’s RBI double gave the Blue Rocks 1-0 lead three batters into the game.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (April 28, 2022) The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 2-0 on Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Wilmington plated a quick run against Hudson Valley starter Edgar Barclay. Israel Pineda’s RBI double gave the Blue Rocks 1-0 lead three batters into the game.

Barclay (2-2) turned in another strong performance, firing 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, one run, striking out five and walking just one.

Over his last three outings, the left-hander has posted 11.2 innings, allowed eight hits, one run, walked two and struck out 18. Barclay’s ERA stands at 1.56.

Wilmington starter Jake Irvin thrived with the lead, logging four shutout innings, surrendering only one hit, striking out four and walking none.

The Blue Rocks tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Kevin Strohschein’s RBI single against Bryan Blanton. That was the lone run charged to Jhonatan Muñoz, who tossed four excellent innings of relief, permitting just two hits, fanning three and issuing only one walk.

Wilmington’s bullpen tandem of Michael Kirian, Troy Stainbrook, and Zach Brzykcy combined for five scoreless innings to close it out, scattering two hits, walking three and striking out eight. Kirian (1-0) earned the win and Brzykcy (2) recorded the save, working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the ninth.

The loss snapped the Renegades four-game winning streak.

Hudson Valley continues its series with Wilmington on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Beck Way (0-0, 4.82) toes the rubber for the Renegades, while the Blue Rocks tab LHP Tim Cate (0-0, 1.00).
