The Jupiter Hammerheads win Friday night’s slugfest over the Tampa Tarpons at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium 9-7.

After just scoring one run the night before, Jupiter doubled that total in the first inning as two runs scored early Friday night. To start, Victor Mesa Jr. ripped a triple down the right-field line to score Cody Morissette. Then, Mesa Jr. came home thanks to a sacrifice groundout from Jerar Encarnacion.

However, Tampa would answer. The Tarpons scored five runs in the top of the second inning and quickly took control of the game. They would add one more run in the fourth as well.

Down 6-2 entering the fifth, Jupiter had a big inning themselves. The Hammerheads would score six runs and wouldn’t trail again for the rest of the game. In the inning, Jupiter only had one hit, a 103 MPH bases-clearing double from Bennett Hostetler. Two runs were walked in, and another scored after Jan Mercado was hit by a pitch in the inning.

The two teams would trade runs in the seventh inning, but nothing more for either team to close out the game.

Hostetler, playing in just his second professional game, finished 2-3 with four RBIs on the night. The North Dakota State product batted eighth and started at shortstop for Jupiter. Victor Mesa Jr. also had a strong night offensively. The young outfielder was halfway to the cycle and picked up his team-leading 50th RBI.

For the third straight night, a Hammerheads player made their professional debut. This time it was Marlins 2021 2nd-round pick, Cody Morissette. The New Hampshire native saw 12 pitches, all balls, in his first three at-bats. The Boston College alum scored twice in the game.

On the mound, Evan Fitterer made his third start of the season with Jupiter. Jesus E. Sanchez picked up his fifth win of the season after allowing only one hit in 3.1 innings. Eddy Tavarez and Joey Steel each pitched hitless innings to close out the ballgame. Steele picked up his second save of the season.

Jupiter and Tampa will play again tomorrow night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm. Both teams have two wins in this six-game series. Tickets are still available at RogerDeanChevroletStadium.com
