The Salt Lake Bees (28-32) fell 8-3 to the Round Rock Express (34-26) on Thursday night at Smith’s Ballpark.
Salt Lake outhit Round Rock 11-9 and walked seven times but struggled to bring the runners home, finishing just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and grounding into a franchise-record tying five double plays on the night. Michael Stefanic finished 2-for-2 with three walks, extending his on-base streak to 62 games. Stefanic is now just 12 games shy of the Minor League Baseball record of 74.
The Bees were able to get to Round Rock spot starter Taylor Hearn, tagging him for three runs in just 0.2 innings, but the rest of the Express bullpen held firm to not allow a run despite surrendering a combined eight hits and six walks. Kenny Rosenberg took the loss for the Bees, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings. Jonathan Holder gave up the other three runs, breaking a streak of four scoreless appearances.
The Bees will celebrate their affiliation with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night with Angels Night at Smith’s Ballpark. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. with fireworks postgame.
