Star Wars Night Scheduled For September 8

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, will host their annual Star Wars Night at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, September 8 for the 6:35 pm game against the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers).

Fans will be able to meet Star Wars fan costumers and take pictures with them on the main concourse throughout the game. Characters and participating organizations will be announced in the coming weeks.

Patriots players and coaches will be wearing exclusive Star Wars themed jerseys at the game as voted on by fans online from February 21 through March 6. The jerseys will be auctioned off through an online auction via MiLB Auctions to benefit The Brooke Healey Foundation and their work to fight pediatric cancer.

Last season, the Patriots raised $8,689.63 for the Brooke Healey Foundation from fundraising efforts at the Star Wars Night event. All players and coaches wore themed jerseys featuring Boba Fett that were later signed by the player or coach that wore it and auctioned off online. In addition, the 50/50 raffle held at the ballpark that evening also benefited the Brooke Healey Foundation.

"Our partnership with the Somerset Patriots organization helps The Brooke Healey Foundation fund necessary research specific to DIPG/DMG and allow us to help families with financial support while dealing with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. 100% of all the money raised at the game and auction will go directly to research and families,” said Steve Healey, President of The Brooke Healey Foundation.

Throughout the night, fans will be able to enjoy music and clips from the Star Wars films, participate in a themed scavenger hunt, and more activities and entertainment to be announced throughout the planning of this year’s event.

Fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters for the game.

*The Brooke Healey Foundation was created to build awareness and raise funds for research for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG); to help families dealing with pediatric cancers, especially brain cancers and DIPG; to foster community relationships and to promote involvement through scholarships awarded to civically active high school seniors. The Foundation exists in honor of five-year-old Brooke Healey, daughter of Steve and Stefani, who was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable, very aggressive tumor in the middle of the brain stem. She passed away on September 9, 2013.
